China's foreign minister, Qin Gang, urged the US to stop meddling in China's affairs during a phone call with US counterpart, Antony Blinken.
The call came ahead of Blinken's visit to Beijing, which is expected to take place in coming days.
Blinken is scheduled to meet senior Chinese officials to raise bilateral issues of concern, as well as other global and regional matters.
The visit is the first by the US's top diplomat to China in five years and is expected to be the highest profile visit of President
Joe Biden's administration.
Tensions between the US and China have been high over issues such as spy allegations and a semiconductor tussle.
